S.M.A.R.T. Goals

Goals are a part of our everyday lives and they help to identify things that we want to accomplish. S.M.A.R.T. Goals provide structure around the goals that we set. S.M.A.R.T. Goals are:

SPECIFIC
Your goal statement should be specific. Include items such as who, what, where and when.

MEASURABLE
How you will track your progress or know when you have accomplished your goal? What will you see, hear or feel?

ATTAINABLE/ACHIEVABLE
Your goal should be something that you can achieve.

RELEVANT/REALISTIC
Your goal should be something that motivates you and helps you to grow and develop. Make sure that your goal is not so far out of reach that you are not able to achieve it within the allotted time and with a reasonable amount of work.

TIMELY
Set a realistic deadline for when you would like to have your goal achieved. Set check points along the way to monitor your progress. Include your deadline in your goal statement.
